Service with a Smile
Need a rest from the crazy week that just ended? Will a nap help? Will the football game bring you joy? Did church uplift you?
Want a guaranteed way to feel good, end with smile and rejuvenate yourself for the week?
Go out and find someone who needs some help. Go out and serve.
Maybe someone needs help changing a tire. Maybe your neighbor needs her leaves raked. Maybe someone just needs a hug. Just do it. Go out and find that someone and serve with a smile.
You’ll find your smile to be contagious. You’ll end with two smiles. Yours and theirs.
NOW, ONCE YOU SERVE, PLEASE RETURN AND LET US KNOW WHAT YOU DID. NOT TO BOAST, BUT TO START IDEAS AND LET US KNOW HOW IT WENT. WE LOVE YOUR STORIES.
An old hymn counsels:
Have I done any good in the world today?
Have I helped anyone in need?
Have I cheered up the sad,
And made someone feel glad?
If not, I have failed indeed!
Has anyone’s burden been light today
Because I was willing to share?
Have the sick and the weary been helped on their way?
When they needed my help was I there?
There are chances for work all around just now
Opportunities right in our way.
Do not let them pass by, saying “Sometime I’ll try.”
But go and do something today.
‘Tis noble of man to work and to give;
Love’s labor has merit alone.
Only he who does something helps others to live.
To God each good work will be known.
